Police confirmed that a man doing maintenance work at Cambridge Circus in London’s West End theater district was crushed by a telescopic urinal.
“We regret to update that despite the efforts of emergency services, a man with serious injuries at Cambridge Circus was pronounced dead at the scene,” the Metropolitan Police said on Twitter.
Police said that the youth’s family has been informed.

According to BBC News, telescopic urinals installed in the area 20 years ago remain underground during the day and hydraulically lift up overnight to reduce urination on the street.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the friends and family of the worker who tragically died at this site in the West End today,” a member of Westminster City Council said in a statement, according to the BBC. “We are on site to support our contractor and emergency services and will assist with all investigations in any way we can.”

The incident happened near the Palace Theater where “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” was playing.
