It has been more than 4 years since Shahrukh came to the leading role on the big screen. His big film Pathan, which was heavily promoted with its promos, has finally hit the screens worldwide today. Let us see if it lives up to the hype created.

Pathan is a part of JOCR (Joint Operations and Covert Research) led by Nandini (Dimple Kapadia), a brave Indian soldier. The brave spies are on a mission to stop rogue Agent Jim (John Abraham) and his team from Outfit X from invading India. Pakistani doctor Rubina Mohsin (Deepika Padukone) helps Pathan discover something called ‘Raktabeej’, which wants to destroy India. But, things changed and Deepika took sides. Who is Rubina? What is blood seed? Who is Jim and why did he want to destroy India? Will Pathan succeed in his mission? The main movie has all the answers.

Plus Points:

Pathan has King Khan Shah Rukh Khan next to him, which is the main selling point of the film. It has been many years since the audience saw him in an action film. Pathan does what SRK fans want. The story is okay and what makes the film neat is its narration.

The brave Indian soldier, Shah Rukh Khan looks fabulous in action. His style, swag and his sense of humor are worth watching. Also, Deepika Padukone gets a meaty role and also gets into the fight against the enemies of the country.

The one who should be appreciated is John Abraham. His looks and actions make him a stylish villain. With this film, he proved that he can play an antagonist role with such ease. The face-to-face scenes between Shah Rukh and John keep the audience glued to the screen.

Dimple Kapadia as Nandini, the head of JOCR, has given a good performance. She is subtle and elegant in her given role. Ashutosh Rana also gives his best.

The way director Siddharth Anand weaves Pathan’s story with war and Ek Tha Tiger is impressive and the next installment in the YRF Spy Universe is surely going to be a blast. Salman Khan’s entry and the scenes between him and Shahrukh are worth whistling. The action sequences in the beautiful locations look incredible.

minus points:

Pathan has everything fans want from their favorite actor Shah Rukh Khan. Siddharth Anand writes a neat story but it could have been better. Sridhar Raghavan’s screenplay is also good but the film could have been more interesting if written in a crisper tone.

VFX is bad, especially in the action sequences. The action sequences look so unreal because of the bad VFX. Some scenes require the audience to forget logic in order to enjoy the magic.

Pathan will be even more interesting if the emotional scenes work well. Unfortunately, there are very few emotional scenes in the film. The patriotic scenes should have been written better to make the audience feel the emotions of the characters.

Dimple Kapadia has more screen presence than John Abraham. The film would be more interesting if the antagonist character had more scenes that could reveal more details about his past.

technical aspects:

Siddharth Anand does a fine job as both director and writer. It is the screenplay that needs to be crisp. Dialogues are good. The cinematography is excellent and so is the score. Production value is fine. The VFX could have been better and the editing is decent too.

The specially designed score for the arrival of the antagonist is good. The action choreographers must be commended for putting their blood, sweat and tears into the film.

On the whole, Pathan is a high-octane action thriller with a stellar performance from Shah Rukh Khan, glamor from Deepika and a villainous act from John Abraham. Barring some over the top action scenes, the film is quite enjoyable. You can watch it this weekend without any idea to enjoy the action packed thriller. Rating: 3.25/5
