Story
Vikram Chakraborty (Taarak Ponnappa), the CEO of a VC finance company, gives interest-free loans to middle-class people and becomes rich in no time. One day, he is murdered in his office after a party. The police department takes the help of Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) expert Sanatan (Adi Sai Kumar) to solve the mystery. Did Sanatan settle the matter? What problems did he face during the investigation? How are Sudiksha (Misha Narang) and Minister Rajvardhan (Madhusudan Reddy) related to this case? Who is the culprit? One has to watch the film to know the answer.
plus points
With each film, Adi is emerging as a better actor and his script selection process is also getting better. The film shows Adi from a new angle and proves that he can do serious subjects perfectly. He gives his best performance as a CSI officer and his body language is also good during action sequences and investigation sequences.
Talking about other actors, Bigg Boss fame Ali Raza who played the role of police officer Rudra also did a good job. Nandini Rai, Madhusudan Rao and Ravi Prakash also put in their best performances.
The story is nothing new to our viewers but the investigation scenes involving some twists and turns create curiosity and make one enjoy the movie.
minus points
The first thing that needs to be discussed in this section is the script. An investigation thriller like this needs to come up with an engaging screenplay. Unfortunately, the writing duo Chaganti Santaiah and Shivshankar Deva fail in this aspect. Had this familiar story been told in an interesting way, CSI Offspring would have made for an interesting crime thriller.
The director has done a fine job. They should have been more careful in choosing the right script as it has some loopholes and unnecessary scenes which look illogical and meaningless. Also some of the dialogues spoil the essence of the investigation scenes. “If there is a murder, it means there is a murderer.” This is one of the worst dialogues in the film.
The director could have included some action episodes to make CSI Sanatan an engaging experience in the theatres.
The characters played by Vasanthi and Khayyum have nothing to do with the main plot except to create some suspense. Heroine Misha Narang is unimpressive and of course, she doesn’t have much to perform in the film. Nandini Rai’s character could have been written better to create more drama and suspense.
technical aspects
Shivshankar Dev should have written an engaging story to make CSI Sanatan an interesting investigation thriller. Shekhar’s cinematography and Anish Solomon’s music fail to enhance the quality of the film. Editing by Amar Reddy could have been better, as some scenes in both the parts can be cut. Production values are about average.
Decision
On the whole, CSI Sanatan is a crime investigation thriller that only works in parts. Adi’s performance and some twists and turns in the second half make the film worth watching. If you leave a few scenes in the first half and a slow screenplay, you can watch the film this weekend.
