Interview : Kalyani Malik- Customer satisfaction is all that matters to me
Young talent Naga Shaurya will next feature in the film Falana Abbai Falana Ammai. The rom-com is being directed by Srinivas Avasarala. Malavika Nair is playing the lead role. Produced by People Media Factory in association with Dasari Productions, the film will release on March 17. Ahead of the release, we had a brief chat with the film’s music composer Kalyani Malik, and here’s the transcript.
Can you tell us a few words about your journey?
I hit and miss in my career. After the failure of the check, there was a gap in my career due to covid and other reasons. However, I got back on track with Falana Abbai Falana Ammayi, Intinti Ramanayam, Vidyavasula Ahem and two web shows. It made me feel that I have got a lot more in my career. The song Kanula Chattu Meghama in particular gave me a new lease of life.
You haven’t tasted success even after composing memorable songs. What’s your take on this?
I cannot answer that question. My career and life has not gone as per my plan and I have only focused on my work. Customer satisfaction is all that matters to me and I make sure that my directors are satisfied with my work. I will complete 20 years in the industry by this March. I have seen ups and downs. Even for the films which didn’t do well, I got appreciated.
How was your experience working with Srinivasa Aavasarla?
It is great to collaborate with Srinivasa Avasarala. I was not the first choice for Falana Abbai Falana Ammayi. One song was sung by Vivek Sagar. I worked on other songs. Both Srinivas and Vivek approached me and I consider myself fortunate to have worked on this project.
Comment on your journey as a singer.
I feel people don’t ask me to sing. Sunita got the award for singing M Sandesham, but I didn’t get it. This disappointed me. I got very sad. But as I said, the show must go on and I have moved on with my career.
Comment about being active on Twitter.
I am happy with the appreciation I am getting for my work on Twitter. I also share about food. At times, I share songs sung by other music directors. I will use different usernames to avoid online trolling.
Do you hope to score for an SS Rajamouli film in future?
SS Rajamouli will always prefer MM Keeravani for his films, and there is no chance of a replacement. Same is the case with Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad, as they make a perfect pair. I never thought of working with Rajamouli.
