Since last night, Telugu social media has been filled non-stop with multiple videos and memes of the director’s roundtable gone terribly wrong. The round table meeting in question was attended by noted Tollywood directors Mohankrishna Indraganti, Shiva Nirvana, Nandini Reddy, Vivek Atreya and Venkatesh Maha and was moderated by a senior journalist.
In the video, Venkatesh Maha, who made the critically acclaimed C/o Kancharapalem, takes a dig at commercial potboilers. Venkatesh Maha specifically took a dig at the KGF franchise and termed it a rubbish film and Rocky Bhai character “neech..kamine aur kutty”. Some of the directors present at the roundtable laughed uncontrollably in approval of Venkatesh Maha’s sarcastic remarks.
Needless to say, the movie-loving audience at large was completely incensed by this blatant assault on their choice to enjoy popcorn movies. He started tagging and criticizing Venkatesh Maha and the directors who favored his comments.
And Nandini Reddy, who felt the heat, took to Twitter and apologized for offending the audience. He also acknowledged the importance of commercial entertainment. “Every commercial film that has become successful is because the audience liked something in that effort. The conversation was not meant to be a mockery of one’s work, but rather a positive debate on what diversity could bring to the story of “commercial cinema”. Apologies for any offence,” (sic) she tweeted. Nandini’s Anni Manchi Sakunamule is all set to hit the theaters soon.
