Mollywood megastar Mammootty starrer Christopher has made its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video in multiple languages including Telugu. Let’s see how Biggie is.
Story:
ADGP Christopher Antony (Mammootty) is an honest police officer and encounter specialist in Kerala. He confronts 5 criminals who raped and murdered a woman in the state. The CM is then under pressure from human rights activist Bina Mariam Chacko (Sneha), who is also Christopher’s ex-wife. ACP Sulekha (Amala Paul) investigates the case and decides to find out Christopher’s history. During the process, she learns about his horrific past. Who is Christopher? Who is Sitaram Trimurti (Vijay Rai) and how is he connected to Christopher’s past? The main movie has all the answers.
Plus Points:
Star actor Mammootty breathes life into the character of Christopher. His nuanced performance as a man with a troubled past and present is impressive. His action says a lot about his character. The way he has pulled off the character is quite remarkable.
Amala Paul as ACP gives her best. This is a different character from the kind of character he has played in the last few films. Meanwhile, Sneha does well as the wife of an honest policeman and the selfish sister of a young man who commits crimes.
One of the important characters after Mammootty is Ameena played by Aishwarya Lekshmi. She did so well in a small but powerful role which drives the story forward in the second part. Her scenes with Mammootty are good to watch.
Justin Verghese’s background score elevates several scenes, especially the action sequences. Slo-mo shots during action sequences are neat.
minus points:
‘Justice delayed is equal to justice denied.’ This is what the director wants to convey to the audience through Christopher. For this, director Unnikrishnan, along with writer Udayakrishna, came up with a long film, replete with gruesome sexual assault scenes.
Dull screenplay and some repetitive scenes definitely bore the audience. The plot of the film is not new to our audience as they must have seen such stories in many old movies.
The film has many notable actors but the director has not utilized them to their full potential. For example, the main antagonist Vinay Rai should have been shown as a more stylish and ruthless person. Had the confrontation scenes between Mammootty and Vinay Rai been well written, the film could have been a better one.
Apart from having a lackluster story, the film also lacks strong emotions that can make anyone sad. The inclusion of some touching scenes between Mammootty and Aishwarya Lekshmi would have added significant emotional depth to the film.
technical aspects:
Both the director and the writer let the film down with their poor script and screenplay. Faiz Siddique manages to make the film look good with his lens. The score by Justin Varghese is the only aspect that makes Christopher a watchable fare. The overall result would have been better if several scenes had been removed from both halves of the film. Production value is fine. Dubbing is also good.
Decision:
On the whole, Christopher is a slow paced and ineffective action thriller. Apart from Mammootty, the film has nothing good to offer. If you are okay with dull visuals and a snail-paced screenplay, you can watch Christopher this weekend.
