Promising actor Naga Shourya and director Srinivas Avasarala have joined hands for their third film, Falana Abbayi Falana Ammai. This film has come on screen today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Sanjay (Naga Shaurya) is junior to Anupama (Malavika Nair) in an engineering college in Vizag. They become instant friends and later move to the UK to pursue a master’s degree. Love blossoms between them and Sanjay learns something unexpected about Anupama. For this reason he keeps distance from her. What is that reason? What happens to Anupama? did they meet again? The film has all the answers.
Plus Points:
The story is very simple and the chemistry between Naga Shaurya and Malavika Nair is very good. Some of the scenes between the lead pair are enjoyable. Naga Shaurya delivers a fine performance and he looks great on screen. His clean-cut performance is one of the best things about the film.
Malavika Nair also did very well. She does very well in emotional scenes and takes good care of her look matching her emotional state.
Abhinav Maharshi also suits his role. Megha Choudhary and Sri Vidya put in their best performance. The background score is good and helps in setting the right mood during the emotional scenes between the lead pair.
minus points:
Srinivas Avasarala is known for rom-com films like Ohlu Gusagusalade and Jyo Achuthananda. More than a director, he is an amazing writer, known for writing witty punches, funny dialogues, romantic scenes and a lot more. Unfortunately, Papa misses out on all these aspects.
The problem with the film is the story. Director Srinivas Avasarala has tried a different kind of screenplay in this movie, which creates a lot of confusion among the audience. He tells a simple story in a complicated manner and this is where the film falls flat. Additionally, the different timelines (described in seven chapters) puzzle the audience.
Most of the dialogue is dry and tests the patience of the audience. Also, the dialogues create unnecessary gaps and thus make the film boring. The first half is filled with at least some comedy scenes but when it comes to the second half, the film is boring and has bland scenes.
The emotional scenes look artificial and the conflict point between the lead pair looks silly and the climax ends abruptly. Srinivas Avasarala tries something new technically, as the film is shot using sync sound. The sound quality is very poor and some of the dialogue is inaudible.
technical aspects:
As a director, Srinivas Avasarala is fine but as a writer, he fails to live up to the expectations of the audience. For those who admired Srinivas Avasarala’s previous works, PAPA would be a disappointing fare. Kalyan Malik’s melodious background score is neat. Sunil Kumar’s cinematography is decent. The makers should have paid more attention to the sound quality and DI, which sounds very lackluster. The film still needs several cuts in both the halves.
Decision:
On the whole, Falana Abbai Falana Ammai is a boring love drama which lacks a proper narrative. Naga Shaurya and Malavika Nair did well. Apart from very few cute and comedy scenes, the film has nothing much to offer. Those who like slow paced love dramas can connect with the story. Otherwise, it would be better to look for alternatives later this week.
