Tollywood, Bollywood & Sandalwood achieved this feat; Can Kollywood do it with PS 2?
The Indian film industry until a few years ago was mostly driven by the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu industries. But Sandalwood has left its mark in Indian cinema through the films KGF and Kantara. The common point between the Telugu, Hindi and Kannada film industries is that they all have a film that has grossed 1000 crores globally.
Baahubali 2 and RRR from Tollywood achieved this huge feat. Bollywood accomplished this with Dangal and Pathan. Sandalwood One earned 1000 crores as KGF 2. Kollywood’s highest worldwide grosser till date is 2.0, but the industry is yet to breach the 1000 crore club. Ponniyin Selvan 1, which was a new industry hit in Tamil Nadu, has grossed 500 crores globally.
So now the big question is, can Ponniyin Selvan’s Part Two achieve this feat and become the first Tamil film to do so? Well, we need to wait for a few more days to find out. Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release on 28 April 2023. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film stars Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai and Jayam Ravi in lead roles.
