4th XXXTentacion killer gets reduced sentence after taking plea deal
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (AP) – A Florida man who testified against three former friends who killed rising rap star XXXTentacion during a robbery five years ago will spend the next two years in prison, a judge ruled Wednesday.
Circuit Judge Michael Youson sentenced Robert Allen to seven years in prison, with credit for the five years he has already spent in Broward County Jail. He will then spend 20 years on probation. He could have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Allen, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and earlier this year testified against Michael Boatwright, 27, Deidrick Williams, 27, and Trayvon Newsom, 25. He was convicted of first-degree murder in March and sentenced to life in prison. the prison.
During the month-long trial, prosecutors linked Allen, Boatwright, Williams and Newsome to the June 18, 2018, shooting outside Riva Motorsports in suburban Fort Lauderdale through extensive surveillance video taken inside and outside the store. He stole $50,000 and made cellphone videos hours after the shooting, showing him taking handfuls of $100 notes.
XXXTentacion, whose legal name is Jahseh Onfroy, had just left Riva Motorsports with a friend when an SUV pulled up in front of him and blocked his BMW.
Surveillance video showed two masked gunmen confronting the 20-year-old singer at the driver’s window, and one shooting him repeatedly. He then grabbed a Louis Vuitton bag full of XXXTentacion cash that had just been withdrawn from the bank, got back into the SUV and fled. The friend was not harmed.
Boatwright was identified as the primary shooter, while Newsom was identified as the second gunman. Williams was the leader of the group and the driver of the SUV.
Allen testified that the men had gone out to commit a robbery that day and had gone to a motorcycle shop to buy Williams’ mask. There he saw the rapper and decided to make him his target.
